It seems that my efforts to work with models is making less of my photography art happen. I want to get back into shooting with "real" people again which is what I was originally good at doing. Although I enjoy the prettiness of fashion and pinups; I want to capture the essence of all the beautiful people I encounter in life and share that with the rest of the world. I am also looking for lots of new faces for my 2010 portrait photography project which I am sure will continue on for a few years.

My eye is always changing its focus and where my inspiration is coming in from. I was compelled to vacation these last two summers to the hot deserts of our Southwest. After traveling long roads I arrived to enjoyed a week of hiking in each location and had a blessed time commemorating the sacred remaining dwellings of our Southwest Native Americans.

I was actually behind the camera for years before I ever started to stand in front of it. However, modeling further gave me the depth and understanding of how I wanted to work with my models in order to accomplish excellent imagery. The result is a great deal of experience and wisdom of how to help pose and capture authentic, beautiful images of women; from portraits to pinups to fashion to fine art images and more....

I have covered images for many different styles of parties and events from corporate parties to fun at the clubs to theatrical shows and of course weddings. Some of my best work I feel was done at Labyrinth just because all the attendees put so much effort into the richness of their costumes, I had to share a slide of all their magical efforts.

I wanted something that felt very different; I wanted to create something new. Before I began this series I was scouring through pages of websites looking for some quality gothic imagery. But nothing fit my idea. Everything was so vampire or oh so dark n' depressing. But this wasn't Goth to me. This wasn't what I saw when I looked into the clubs and scenes that I was attending. I mean yeah sure everyone gets depressed now and then, but being overly dramatized about depression wasn’t what real people calling themselves Goth was about. I mean sure over dramatization is a part of it, but that is only one small slice of the pie. Goth is a subculture in society that in my opinion was being misshapen and poorly portrayed in only one shade. Black. But it’s more than just that. Where was the gray matter? I was inspired by the historical romanticism associated with the era. I was inspired but the adorable dark punk girls streaming out to the night clubs with their pretenses of what underground fashion and beauty meant. But where was this being recorded? Where was the ideals of this high fashion society, full of vanity where every night seems like Halloween because the reason you are going out is because "you look that good" or even add in that nice ole Goth narcissism, “hell, you look better than everyone else”. I had to do something about this… and so began my Gothic Beauty series, where my approached was to go directly to the girls at the clubs, retail stores, etc. that I felt inspired the appropriate look and mix of the scene I so enjoy when going out. I wanted to capture their personality and personal style. This series began in 2001 and all though is no longer a main focus of my photography work these days, I am always willing to add more imagery of beautiful Goth girls as I come by them to this series. I originally started with the Earth being my first lovely model. I do not need to help pose her, I just need to understand how she shines and when to be at the right place at the right time to capture it.
